End-of-Term Message from the President
Dear colleagues and friends:
It has been a great honor to serve as the President of the APPSPGHAN for two terms. The past four years were full of important initiatives and many firsts for the society, delivering our mission to broaden the practitioners' knowledge across the region. Firstly, we developed the APPSPGHAN website (https://appspghan.org) and an online membership system to stay connected with our community. We subsequently offered various academic activities online amid the COVID-19 pandemic and organized collaborative conferences with other sister societies across the globe. Recently, our colleagues had excellent opportunities to meet in person at the APPSPGHAN Hands-on Endoscopy Workshop in Bangkok and the 15th APPSPGHAN Congress in Kota Kinabalu. In addition, the Scientific Committees initiated collaborative studies and consensus guidelines in the various fields of interest. Notably, the APPSPGHAN’s Position Paper on Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Diseases was formalized. Finally, we are proud to have provided, for the first time, educational grants for our members to encourage collaborative research in the region.
All these fruitful achievements could not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Executive Committee and all the Standing Committees, whom I wish to sincerely thank. Over the past four years, we have established many committees, subcommittees, and working groups who worked tirelessly for the benefit of both our colleagues and the children in our care. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for your outstanding contributions, dedication, and commitment to the growth of our society. Be proud that your hard work has generated a substantial, positive impact on the APPSPGHAN. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the Council for their excellent support and expedient advice for the benefit of our society. Lastly, I am grateful to all our members and the local societies in our region for their continuing support of the APPSPGHAN. We wish to assure you that the APPSPGHAN will endeavor to do its best to serve your interests and those of the children we serve.
I would like to congratulate the new president, Professor Kyung-Mo Kim, and wish him the very best in steering our society into the future. I am confident that under Prof. Kim’s leadership, the APPSPGHAN will advance to greater heights, becoming one of the leading societies in the world.
I look forward with excitement to a bright future for the APPSPGHAN.
Professor Suporn Treepongkaruna, M.D.
President, APPSPGHAN (24 October 2018 to 31 October 2022)
